A Heated Lemonade Stand-off
The law doesn’t get any lower when it stoops to break the heart of a small child, short of a court order to break the heart of a small child with, say, a shovel.
A town in California did just that when it shut down a little girl’s lemonade stand for operating without a permit, according to the Fresno Bee.
A code enforcement officer shut down the business. He spotted the girl’s stand in a residential neighborhood where he was crushing the dreams of other children by condemning playgrounds for bringing them more happiness the law deems appropriate.
He told the child it was not safe to operate a business in the area and they lacked the proper business permit to sell lemonade. The officer told the paper he was just doing his job. Well if his job was to nitpick trivial matters with rigid laws in order to break the spirit of every child in America, then maybe he deserves a raise.
