AG Doesn’t Know Definition of Law

It’s understandable if some people don’t know the definition of the word “law.” Public education has taken some massive hits in our time and we’re sure most of them had to burn dictionaries for heat. But it’s another thing when your the attorney general of the country, a job that requires you to at least know the definition of the word “law.”

Michael Mukasey, the U.S. Attorney General, said he won’t pursue charges in the U.S. attorney firings because “not every wrong, or even every violation of the law, is a crime,” according to the New York Times.

Now before we all get up in arms (put down the pitchforks and torches, you know who you are), maybe Mukasey’s right. After all, he’s a highly important law enforcement official and well trained legal expert and I’m just a lowly underpaid blogger who hasn’t cleaned his shower in a month.

So let’s consult a knowledgeable and important source of legal know-how: the dictionary. The first definition states…

…an action or an instance of negligence that is deemed injurious to the public welfare or morals or to the interests of the state and that is legally prohibited.

When the heads of the guy charged of enforcing the law says that a violation of the law isn’t a crime, you have to walk to outside and make sure the sun is still in the sky and the grass is still green, but that’s something that only comes out of the Bizarro World in the old Superman comics.

So tomorrow, here’s the weather: expect an early morning shower of fudge, followed by slightly flaky skies and then a clear night with lightly scattered showers of frogs.
