Everyone Loves Tacos, Except the L.A. County Government
Who doesn’t love a nice crunchy sidewalk taco in the middle of a hot and muggy California afternoon? The L.A. County Board of Supervisors, apparently.
According to the L.A. Times’ editorial page, the Board of Supervisors have passed a law preventing taco trucks from being in one spot for longer than an hour.
If they are caught in one spot over the 60 second mark, they can get a $1,000 fine or up to six months in jail. Are they smuggling crack in the tacos?
According to the blog the Consumerist, the law was put in place to protect restaurants who were losing money when the taco trucks pulled in front of their businesses. Well if you’re a hundred buck a meal restaurant whose losing out to a $1 taco stand, then you deserve to go under.
The editorial urges L.A. patrons to flood the taco stands to tell the county government how they feel about this exclusive and biased law. It might work since it’s the first time American voters are allowed to voice their opinions with their ever increasing guts.
