Attention state of Florida, I am already very close to take a pocket knife, cutting your state off at the border and kicking you out to sea. This story just halved that margin.
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — A proposal to make key lime pie the official state pie has passed the House Tourism Committee.
State Representative Mitch Needelman thinks key limes would best represent Florida since the state has such a large citrus industry.
But lawmakers from other areas of the state think otherwise. Some legislators in the northern part of the state argued that pecan pie should be the official state pie, while some in the central part of the state pushed for strawberry pie.
Florida has had the ear of the entire nation with some of the issues they’ve had to deal with over the past six years: voting reform, euthanasia, illegal immigration. They’ve got problems no one would wish on their worst enemy state. That’s right, Nebraska, I’m talking to you. Don’t look so innocent. You know why.
But apparently after having to deal with all of these problems, voting a state pie gets pushed to the forefront of their priorities. I hear next week the Legislature is scheduled to vote on the official bird. I’m sure their pushing for the Dodo.
So listen closely Florida, I’ll make a deal with you. If you stop acting like the black sheep cousin with no job who keeps telling stories about his roadies days with Motley Crue at the family picnic, I’ll stop writing jokes about you or, at the very least, I’ll write better, funnier ones.
