A lot of cities are really struggling to keep their heads above water financially speaking. So how do they keep from going down the fiscal sewer hole? Do they tighten their belts and find unnecessary expenditures to cut out of their budget? Do they increase the tax burden on their citizens? Do they hold a bake sale?
Toledo, Ohio finds an obscure parking law that makes no sense and actively enforces it, according to the State News.
They found an obscure law on the books that prevents residents from parking on unpaved surfaces. So instead of striking it from their books for being outdated and purposeless, they turned it into their golden cash cow that produces liquid diamonds from its udders.
The citations have been running citizens as much as $25 a ticket, and the mayor is defending the police’s decisions to ticket the vehicles. So next week, get ready to get tickets for violating caveman’s laws. Better not carry a concealed club in public and you’re looking at jail time.
