Why New Jersey Sucks
If you have been in New Jersey recently, first of all, we feel your pain.
Second of all, you may have noticed that people there love to yell out of their cars at people as they pass them on the highway. That’s not alcohol road rage or just plain old assholishness, it’s the law.
A statute in the New Jersey code states that, “The driver of an overtaking motor vehicle not within a business or residence district shall give audible warning with his horn or other warning device before passing or attempting to pass a vehicle proceeding in the same direction.”
That means that if you attempt to pass a car anywhere on the roadway, you have to “audibly” let that person know you are passing them. Whether or not you use curse words in your warning is completely up to you.
This only applies to vehicles that you are attempting to pass who are you headed in the same direction. So if you’re driving into oncoming traffic, feel free to lay off the horn.
